Dr. Birchansky is a native of London, England. She earned her medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine in Miami, Florida, and completed her psychiatry residency at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She is board certified in adult and forensic psychiatry.
Dr. Birchansky's previous training and experience in internal medicine and radiation oncology led to her interest in the connection between psychiatric disorders and medical illness. For many years she worked in the outpatient clinics and residential treatment programs of Fairfax County Mental Health Services, providing treatment to individuals with severe mental illnesses.
Dr. Birchansky has considerable experience treating adults with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and psychiatric illness related to stress and chronic medical conditions. Her special interests include cognitive-behavioral therapy to treat various psychiatric disorders, mind-body medicine, and the relationship between psychiatric and medical illnesses.
